Detroit Public Schools adds classrooms for 500 more preschool students

Jennifer Chambers The Detroit News Comments Detroit — About 500 more preschool-aged children will be able to start their education at Detroit Public Schools this fall, now that the district has expanded its early learning program by adding 25 new classrooms at 14 buildings. In total, DPS will operate 215 pre-K classrooms at 70 schools with a capacity for 3,530 young learners. Last year, the district had a waiting list for preschool and had to turn away 521 students, said DPS spokesman Steve Wasko.
