A new law reducing the number of exams required for high school graduation has earned praise from education leaders, but questions remain for portions dealing with graduation requirements and accountability rating systems. Gov. Rick Perry signed House Bill 5 into law last week, which reduces the number of end-of-course exams required for high school students to graduate from 15 to 5. EOC exams are part of the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness, or STAAR, testing system.
